Daylight Saving – The Importance for you & your neighbours

Daylight Saving – Facts and Importance of Daylight Saving

Daylight saving is seen from diverse perspectives. To some, it is a customary phase as some people have gotten accustomed to this.  While for others, it allows them to carry out more activities during the day. Perhaps you might be wondering;

In this article, we will walk through the facts and importance of daylight savings.

What Is Daylight Saving?

Time, saving, nature, light,

Daylight saving is a time where people, specifically in the North America, shift their clocks forward by an hour to save power during spring. When it ends, clocks are moved backward again by an hour. This action does not increase the length of the day but gives more usable daylight hours.

When Do People Observe Daylight Saving?

This depends on the country and region. For some, daylight saving starts last Sunday of March and ends on the last Sunday of October.

For others, daylight saving starts on the second Sunday of March and ends the first Sunday of November every year.

From the calculation, daylight saving for 2021 is estimated to begin on Sunday 14th March at 2 a.m and ends Sunday 7th November 2021 at 2 am.

History of Daylight Saving

The idea was berth by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 who wrote a dissertation stating that people can save energy by resetting their clock in the summer. He believes that during that time, the sun provides the energy that we use.

Daylight saving was however not implemented in the North America officially until May 1916 during the first world war.

Why Is Daylight Saving Celebrated, Any Importance?

In 2005, it was established by Thunder Mouth Press that moving the clock forward allows people to conserve energy more effectively.

Providing an aura of longer daytime and short night.

Does Daylight Saving Save Energy?

For this, it is an open question because different research has given different results.

According to Harvey’s research, Americans sticking to daylight saving isn’t about the energy it saves. He states that the primary purpose is to allow people to make better use of natural daylight.

Who Celebrates Daylight Saving?

Some states in the U.S including North America and Canada celebrate daylight saving.

Less than 40% of countries around the globe practise daylight savings once a year.

This implies that there are so many countries in the world that do not observe DST.

Regardless, for countries where it is observed consistently, they tend to make good use of the daylight during the summer evenings.

Any Health Effect of Daylight Saving?

The research reported in the Open-Heart journal in 2014, on hypertension and cardiac arrest shows a 24% rise in heart attacks on that Monday.

This is where you see also your friends, your neighbours and family starting to go outside for a walk of a hike, they wake up early to do an activity or gather outside until the sun goes down. Helping the inner soul to feel better, more awake and to communicate this energy around them in a more positive and happy way.

Conclusion

While it makes sense to some, others don’t see the need for DST. So, what do you think about daylight saving? Is it worth celebrating alone, with friends, family, your neighbour or not?
